“You can envy the luck Rublev had on match points in the game with Rune” – Morozova, 1974 Roland Garros champion

The 1974 Roland Garros champion in doubles Olga Morozova in a conversation with a correspondent noted that one can envy the luck of the Russian tennis player. Andrei Rublev on match point in the Australian Open fourth round encounter with the Dane Holger Rune .

Rublev won the game with a score of 6:3, 3:6, 6:3, 4:6, 7:6 (11:9). The tennis players spent 3 hours and 37 minutes on the court. The Russian lost with a score of 2:5 in the decisive set and 0:5 in the tie-break.

– First of all, I would like to congratulate Andrei. The match turned out to be very difficult emotionally and physically. He played with a tennis player who is powerful, strong, a good runner. In this match, they had incredible swings. I really wanted Rublev to win and I thank him for making it happen. It seems to me that Andrei in this regard was stimulated by the match between Khachanov and Tiafoe, when Karen left with 1:6 in a tie-break. Here Rublev rebounded with 0:5.

I think to some extent he was unlucky in the tie-break. He had several balls out of bounds, but literally a few centimeters weren’t enough. But he’s an experienced player and he must have said to himself: “I’m playing well!” From then on, as soon as he blocked at the net on one of Rune’s first match points, something changed. Then I understood why he was not playing on open ground – earlier Rune had already guessed this move. So Andrei thought that the opponent would run there. And in general there were a lot of difficulties in the tie-break, the game became equal. But there was hope, and it was justified.

I am very happy for Rublev. He is a very hardworking tennis player and he plays powerfully, he has great technique, he moves well. He gives himself entirely to tennis. I’ve known him since I was little. He was always emotional and always gave himself completely. Of course, he should have won. We can envy his luck at matchball. Everyone would like that, but not everyone can do it (laughs). However, the ball went over the net because Andrey attacked! If you don’t go to the ball, he’ll never fly like that. And Rublev went to him and gave him a turn, tried to score. A positive attitude towards this move was seen, but of course, a bit of luck, Morozova told .

In the quarter-finals, Rublev will face Serbian Novak Djokovic.
