Seven-time Grand Slam winner on potential Australian Open 2023 final
Seven-time Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander spoke about the chances Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas get out in Australian Open 2023 final. The legendary Swede noted the high level of play of the Serbian tennis player.
“A lot of people are starting to talk about the obvious final between Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas and I think we should slow down. Sure, Novak looked really good and he looked unbeatable, but he’s not superhuman. We should be more polite to him and respect his efforts. He just plays at an incredibly high level,” Wilander said.
“Ben Shelton is a very dangerous 20 year old American who has never played Novak so he doesn’t have that fear. Novak Djokovic is easy, he is the favorite to get into the final. Stefanos Tsitsipas plays great, but he has dangerous opponents, so, in my opinion, everything is completely ambiguous.
Djokovic, who received the fourth seed, will play with Andrey Rublev in the 1/4 finals of the Australian Open. The fight will take place on January 25th. Estimated start of the match is at 10:30 am Kyiv time.
Tsitsipas, seeded under the third number, today defeated Jiri Lehechka in the quarterfinals – 6:3, 7:6(2), 6:4. In the semi-final, Stefanos will face Karen Khachanov.
Recall that according to the results of the second round of the Australian Open, seeded Rafael Nadal and second seed Casper Ruud left.
