Kostyuk made it to the doubles semi-finals for the first time at the Australian Open

Kostyuk and Rousse beat the fourth seed

Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk first advanced to the doubles semi-finals on Australian Open.

In the quarter-finals, Kostyuk, paired with Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse, defeated fourth-seeded Storm Hunter/Elise Mertens (Australia/Belgium) in three sets.

In the first game, everything went to a tie-break, where Kostyuk and Ruse bounced back from a score of 2:5, winning six of the next seven draws. From the beginning of the second set, Marta and Elena-Gabriela took the lead 2:0, after which they lost six games in a row. In between sets, the Ukrainian took a medical break due to knee problems.

In the first game of the decisive set, the Ukrainian-Romanian couple made a break and took another serve from their opponents in the seventh game – 5:2. Then Kostyuk failed to apply for the match and Hunter and Mertens were able to close the gap in the score, but in the next game Kostyuk and Ruse managed to complete the match.

Kostyuk and Rousse held the second joint quarter-final at the Grand Slam tournaments and reached the 1/2 finals for the first time. Last year, tennis players lost in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros.

In the semi-finals, the Ukrainian and Romanian will meet with the seed leaders Barbora Kreychikova and Katerina Sinyakova from the Czech Republic.

Recall that Kostyuk and Ruse made it to the quarterfinals, beating the Czech tandem Miriam Kolodzeeva / Market Vondrousov in two sets.
