Molchanov: I invite ATP officials to come to my house. Maybe then they’ll understand what’s going on

Denis is unhappy that the organization is primarily concerned about tennis players from Russia and Belarus

Ukrainian tennis player Denis Molchanov criticized the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), which, during the war between Russia and Ukraine, is loyal to Russian athletes.

“This is a very difficult situation for me. The Russian players do not represent the Russian authorities, we have been friends for a long time. On the other hand, it is impossible to separate the power and its citizens when it comes to the country. Generally speaking, there is a war going on and everyone who is related to the invaders must be punished. We are losing families, friends, homes. Ukraine has been suffering for so long.”

“Personally, I do not feel any support from the tennis community. I should feel supported by the ATP, but the management of the men’s Tour punishes all players [не начисляя очки за выступление на Уимблдоне] and, rather, supports the Russians. From the side of the Turs, this is a very strange decision, as for me.

“My house is located three kilometers from Bucha and Irpen in the Kyiv region. We all know what happened there. I would like tennis officials to come to my house and see how everything looks there. I invite them to my home. Maybe then they’ll understand what’s going on. Perhaps then they will change their views?

Criticism from Molchanov is connected with the decision of the ATP and WTA not to award ranking points at Wimbledon this year. This happened due to the non-admission to the tournament of Russian and Belarusian tennis players.

Wimbledon 2022 starts on June 27th.
