Kafelnikov – on the Australian Open women’s final: “I wanted Rybakina to win, but it was initially clear that Sobolenko was the favourite”

Two-time Grand Slam singles champion, former world number one Yevgeny Kafelnikov shared his emotions from the Australian Open final between the Belarusian tennis player Arina Sobolenko and a representative from Kazakhstan Elena Rybakina .

Sobolenko won with the score 4:6, 6:3, 6:4. The match lasted 2 hours and 28 minutes. For Sobolenko, 24, this is the first Grand Slam singles title of his career.

– To be honest, I wanted Rybakina to win. But initially it was clear that Sobolenko was the favorite. She led head-to-head 3-0. The match turned out to be even, there was a struggle in every match. Each point was quite difficult to win. I want to say that the final was definitely a success! It was an exciting spectacle with a brilliant ending – everything is as it should be in the final of such a tournament! – quotes the words of Kafelnikov “Championship”.
