Junior Australian Open winner Alina Korneeva has admitted she thought about withdrawing from the tournament due to injury.
Korneeva beat Andreeva on Saturday in the Australian Open Junior final. The match ended 6:7 (2:7), 6:4, 7:5 in favor of Korneeva, seeded ninth in the tournament. Andreeva had the seventh seeded number.
– Do I think about the victory? I constantly think about how I was able to control myself, playing with a serious injury, because there were thoughts of abandonment. I don’t think about the fact that I won, but rather about the pride that I have in myself: playing all the matches and winning with injuries and problems. I took painkillers before games, but that didn’t really help. There was direct pain upon application so it was as low as it gets unfortunately. Although the first one is quite strong, it is my strong point.
Yes, and there was a slight pain in the leg, but there it just bruised the leg. Is it possible to play “on injury”? This is completely normal. All rewound and knotted. Before the games, at the physio, I met all the girls during the tournament – they rolled. It’s even cool: to pass the tournament by the test, – said Korneeva “Championship”.
