Mouvair Zen air purifier why use it?

Where would you say the air quality is better: inside your clean and tidy home or on streets full of smog and gas? If you live in an urban area, it is logical that you think that the air you breathe inside the house is cleaner than outside, but you are wrong.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have sought solutions to reduce the risk of transmitting the virus at home or at work. One of the products that has started to be talked about is air purifiers, which, according to their self-promotion, promise to help clean the air and reduce the amount of viruses and particles in the air.

However, it is important to note that specialists say that there is still no solid scientific evidence to support the effectiveness of air purifiers in preventing the transmission of COVID-19. But beware, this does not prevent them from being useful for other diseases.

Some time ago in Práctico we addressed the issue of purifiers and on this occasion Cecilia Vizcaya, pediatric infectiologist of the UC-Christus Health Network, commented on some of the functions of purifiers. “They work great for cleaning dust, dust mites, pollen, and other contaminants, so they work for allergy sufferers,” he explained.

And this is precisely one of the reasons that prompted Vicente Doh, CEO of the company Mouvair, to create a device that would help him with his allergies. This industrial civil engineer from the University of Chile realized that the air inside houses is 3 to 5 times more polluted than outside. This discomfort can be caused by the dust and dust mites that are present, and which, without adequate ventilation, will always end up in the environment. For this reason, he designed a device that helps people with respiratory problems reduce their symptoms.

This device is the Mouvair Zen, which has 6 filtering stages. It promises to remove 99.97% of air pollutants, such as cigarette smoke, pet hair, pollen, mold and bacteria. I eat? All this thanks to the efficiency of the 6-in-1 filtration system, which includes the HEPA filter (High Efficiency Particulate Air Filter), activated carbon, cold catalyst, UV lamp, ionizer and antibacterial.

Its mechanism is essentially the same as that of a vacuum cleaner: it sucks in air at one end and restores it at the other, but in the meantime it retains it in these filters. To further improve its purifying capacity, there are devices that add ultraviolet (UV) lights, which with their radiation oxidize microorganisms that may have entered the filters, almost completely sterilizing the air.

My experience with Zen by Mouvair

In my family, we are all allergic. Lots of nasal congestion, red burning eyes and a dry cough are some of our classic symptoms that accompany us at different times of the year. So I decided to test if our allergic state was reduced a bit with the help of an air purifier. Also, we have a dog that lives inside the house and of course, like all of our furry friends, sheds a lot of hair.

The first thing I want to point out is that Zen by Mouvair is easy to use, with simple instructions. The first thing you need to do, before turning it on, is to install the filters which are wrapped in plastic. Then you can turn it on and the first thing the purifier does is detect the quality of the air around you thanks to the quality sensor it has. Its reading is extremely easy, since it uses the colors of the traffic light to indicate whether the quality is good, bad or moderate, distinguishing between green, red and yellow respectively.

As stated in the user guide that comes with the unit, if the air quality is good you run the purifier on low speed, if moderate on medium speed and when the panel is red it is preferable to increase the intensity at maximum speed.

Although it is an extremely silent device – do not imagine that it is something like a fan – it also has a night mode, even quieter so as not to interrupt your rest, something essential for people like me who are very light sleepers.

After about two months of use, I can assure you that the level of allergies has gone down considerably in this house. An air purifier is a great addition for those who suffer from these types of conditions.
