Head of the Russian Padella Federation Alexei Sorokin talked about the problems of development of this sport in the country.
– Today, the biggest difficulty is that most simply do not know what padel is. Maybe they heard it or saw it out of the corner of their eye, but they have an idea what this sport is all about. In many European countries, padel is second in terms of the number of people involved in the sport, after football. Even in small countries there are thousands of courts and dozens of clubs. Here we are a little behind in the development of padel, but I am sure that soon its popularity will increase.
Padel is one of the most tolerant sports. Children start learning to play it at the age of 7-8 years. There is no limit, I saw people on the court who were over 70 years old. They move successfully, because it does not require unimaginable cardio capacity, great strength and speed. In padel, precision and strategy are more likely to be needed,” Sorokin said in the program “All for the Match! on MatchTV.
Padel is a racket sport that shares similarities with tennis and table tennis, as well as squash and badminton. The standard padel court measures 10 meters by 20 meters and is played with tennis balls and perforated rackets without strings.
