“It’s a pity that you can’t play at home” – Kasatkina on the cancellation of the tournament in St. Petersburg

The cancellation of the traditional Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tournament in St. Petersburg is insulting, but logistically it will be more convenient for athletes to play in Abu Dhabi, Russia’s top racket says at MatchTV. Daria Kasatkina.

Kasatkina, Veronika Kudermetova, Lyudmila Samsonova and other Russian tennis players will take part in the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates from February 6 to 12. In November, it became known that the WTA had not scheduled the February Ladies Trophy tournament in St. Petersburg, later replacing it with competitions in Abu Dhabi.

– I always liked this series of three tournaments. In particular, I will be playing the Abu Dhabi tournament for the second time, before that I was coming here in covid times. It turns out that they replaced the St. Petersburg tournament. It’s a shame that we can’t play at home, but if you look at the logistics, such a series of tournaments is much more convenient for the athletes. The atmosphere is good, it’s only the fourth tournament of the year, it will be very interesting for me to play here.

The composition is also very good. The original sheet was even sturdier, but as always, it thins out a bit. And, for example, at the Doha tournament, in general, everyone will perform. Now the WTA‑500s are so brutal. The grid is smaller, according to the ranking, all players are denser, and when there is such competition, development is faster, Kasatkina told correspondents.
