Jarry defends Chile: beats Bublik to exit series even against Kazakhstan

The world 102 surprised and won a key game for national aspirations. Tomorrow the actions start with the doubles.

Chile are tied with Kazakhstan after the first day of competition at La Serena. The national team managed to overcome the streak thanks to a fine victory by Nicolás Jarry (126th) over Alexander Bublik (36th) and tomorrow it will be decided if the team returns to the Davis Cup World Group after four years.

Victory much needed after the Agonizing defeat of Christian Garin at the first point of the key . The northerner fell without appeal against Timofey Skatov, in a match where nothing came out for the national, which ended up losing 1-6 and 3-6.

So there was a lot at stake. Going 0-2 was an almost insurmountable scenario and Jarry took the situation on his chest. He came out very focused on the field and from the first point of the match he showed that he was in better condition than his rival.

He used his service as a great weapon and left number 36 on the planet in check. He presented him with a deep and very even game, which the Kazakh couldn’t control, no matter how much he occasionally scored weekly repeat points. In fact, the big difference was in the consistency between the two tennis players.

That’s why the first set was clearly in Jarry’s hands. A 6-2 that left a sensation that even lasted for long periods of the second round . The man from Santiago managed to tame the Kazakh who was very uncomfortable with the conditions and the terrain that is at La Serena.

That’s how Jarry paved the way to victory and even managed to stop Bublik’s second wind as he trailed 0-2 in the second set. After being tied, the National took another step forward and closed the game with another resounding 6-2.

In this way, Jarry shows that he deserved his place in the singles matches. By his current performances, he is the best national tennis player and incidentally maintains the good feelings he gave during his time at the Australian Open where he won three matches in the qualifying phase and managed to advance to the second round of the main draw.

From now on, Chile will return to the pitch tomorrow at 11 a.m. Tabilo and Barrios will be in charge of playing the doubles against a power couple like that of Kazakhstan. Today’s game secures a fourth game in the series. This meeting will be between Christian Garin and Alexander Bublik. Jarry will be responsible for playing the hypothetical fifth point.
