Peque Schwartzman bids an early farewell to the Argentina Open

The Argentine tennis player, number 32 in the ATP ranking, lost 6-1 and 6-3 and was eliminated in the round of 16 of the championship. The Spaniard will face Francisco Cerúndolo next.

Diego Schwartzman did not get out of the terrible moment he was going through since the middle of last year and was eliminated from the Argentina Open on the night of his debut, when he fell without offering much resistance against the Spaniard Bernabé Zapata Miralles 6 – 1 and 6-3 in the match that ended in the round of 16.

“Little” Schwartzman, ranked 32nd in the ATP world rankings, he was easy prey for Valencian Zapata Miralles (74) and bid farewell to the tournament after an hour and 17 minutes of playin the match that closed the day at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.

The 30-year-old Argentine has lost 12 of the last 13 games he has played in the past six months and next week will continue his rapid slide down the rankings, dropping to 38th place after being 16th in the world until August 2022.

Schwartzman, champion in Buenos Aires in 2021 and two-time finalist, in 2019 and 2022he played without confidence from the beginning of the match and found himself with a rival who returned everything and will meet the Argentine tennis player again this Friday, when he faced Francisco Cerúndolo in the quarterfinals.

Bernabe Zapata Miralles

The Spanish he broke “Peque”‘s serve three times in the first set which he won 6-1 in 34 minutesand maintained his dominance in the second despite the fact that the public tried to distract him with permanent encouragement to see if a reaction would come, something that did not happen.

Zapata Miralles, who beat compatriot Pedro Martínez (73) in the opening round, continued to dominate the favor in the second set and unsurprisingly broke Schwartzman’s serve twice again to lead 1-0 and 3-0 and leave the game almost decided, something he eventually achieved 6-3.

Schwartzman surrendered almost without resistance and left the field with his head down, bewildered by a gift he could not understand.and knowing that he had lost to a spirited opponent whose only act was to run and put the ball in play, the rest was his with an unusual number of errors.

Zapata Miralles, Francisco Cerúndolo’s next rival

The 26-year-old Spaniard will be the opponent this Friday of “Fran” Cerúndolo, the current number one in national tennis who previously settled in the quarterfinals after defeating Mallorcan Jaume Munar 6-2 and 6-1.
