Nadal on victory over Djokovic: It was only a quarter-final, so I haven’t won anything yet

The Spaniard beat the first racket of the world on the way to the semi-finals

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal commented on his victory over Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros (6:2, 4:6, 6:2, 7:6 (4)). According to him, the semi-finals should be held at the same level.

“Of course it was a very emotional evening, but it was only a quarter-final, so I haven’t won anything yet. I just gave myself the opportunity to return to the court in two days and play another Roland Garros semi-final. This is very important to me,” Nadal said.

“If I play poorly in the semi-final or lose it, it’s not because I wasn’t focused on it. I have experience in such things. I’m not one of those guys who emotionally go through ups and downs. I think I’m very emotionally stable. I know how things work. Now there is time to enjoy it because it was a great evening, but tomorrow I will start thinking about how to be ready for the semi-finals. The main goal is to focus on the level at which I played today.”

“Without a doubt, it is a very late time to play tennis. I can’t complain as we’ll have two days off, but if you have one day off or like Zverev when he had to play the final in Madrid the next day, that’s a big problem.”

“Of course, I understand the other side of the business. TV channels pay huge sums of money to play matches this late. In this case, the tournament earns and the players earn, don’t they? We need to find a balance, the right balance, to make it the best it can be. Obviously, a five set match on clay starting at 21:00 can be very long. But that’s all I can say.”

“We played against each other, for many years, in the most important matches, in the biggest tournaments. Today it was a quarter-final, not a final, but it was still a super classic match with an amazing script.”

“There is an amazing history of important matches between Novak, Roger and myself over such a long time. Of course it makes some things more emotional and more special. However, there is always a conversation about who wins the most Slams in the end or who is the best in history, but like I said, it doesn’t really matter. We achieve our dreams. We are making history in our sport because we have done something that has never happened before. The level of the “Big Three” in my opinion is about the same, so I think all these conversations do not matter much.

In the semi-finals of Roland Garros, Nadal will play against the German tennis player Alexander Zverev. The match will take place on June 3rd.

Djokovic is the current champion of Roland Garros. In the semi-finals of last year’s tournament, the Serb defeated Nadal.
