Dmitrieva believes the threat of removal from the British Lawn Tennis Association due to the non-admission of Russians could harm Russian tennis players

The threat of exclusion of the British Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) from the organization of tournaments under the auspices of the ATP and the WTA in the event of repeated refusal of Russian and Belarusian tennis players can harm our athletes, has tennis expert and commentator Anna Dmitrieva told .

Earlier, the English newspaper Daily Mail reported that the probability of LTA suspension is very high if the organization again bans Russian and Belarusian tennis players from participating in their tournaments. In this case, the hosting rights for the competition may be put up for sale.

I always try to say as little as possible so as not to scare. Behind the scenes there are reports that our athletes are going to be allowed at Wimbledon, at least they are considering this option, but now it is better to wait. The threat of possible suspension from the British Lawn Tennis Association is preventative, it consists of quite old people who can react in ways that only harm our tennis players. Therefore, for now, I would prefer not to rush into such conversations,” Dmitrieva told .

Russian and Belarusian tennis players have been suspended from the Wimbledon tournament in 2022 due to events in Ukraine. Later, the competition organizers were fined $1 million and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) stripped the tournament of scoring points.

Wimbledon 2023 will take place from July 3-16.
