Paired with Elena Ostapenko from Latvia, the Ukrainian beat the duo Timea Babos/Kristina Mladenovic (Hungary/France). Lyudmila and Elena won the first game confidently, spending only 25 minutes. In the second Kichenok and Ostapenko had to play a tie-break.
Ukrainian and Latvian seeded at the tournament in Dubai under the second number and automatically passed to the second round. In the quarterfinals, their opponents will be the winners of the match Zhaosuan Yang/Vera Zvonareva – Shuko Aoyama/Makoto Ninomiya.
Recall that at the previous tournament in Doha, Kichenok and Ostapenko reached the final. In a dramatic match, Lyudmila and Elena lost to a pair of Coco Gauff / Jessica Pegula.
