For the second consecutive weekend, Daniil Medvedev reached the final of the ATP tournaments. Last week the Russian fought for the title in Rotterdam and was able to get it by beating the Italian Yannick Sinner in straight sets (5:7, 6:2, 6:2). And on this, our tennis player is about to win the tournament in the capital of Qatar – Doha, by the way, taking part in it for the first time in his career. Medvedev’s rival will be the legendary British tennis player Andy Murray, who was even once the world’s leading racket for a short time (2016). And it was at a time when all the representatives of the Great Trinity were, as they say, on the go!

Analyzing Medvedev’s game in both Rotterdam and Doha, we want to say that Daniil has finally gained confidence. In two consecutive tournaments, the Russian did not experience any setbacks or breakdowns during matches. Medvedev is stable on the pitch and regularly takes breaks. However, singing the praises of Daniel’s game, in our opinion, is still premature. Still, Medvedev’s rivals in these tournaments didn’t have really strong players yet. Perhaps more telling will be the Russian’s performance next week, when Alcaraz, Djokovic and Nadal play with him at the Dubai tournament. This is where the real test of the current level for Medvedev will be. By the way, Daniil can start the tournament in the capital of the United Arab Emirates as the 7th racket in the world, displacing the legendary Rafa from this position. To do that, the Russian needs to defeat 35-year-old Murray today.

Yes, the Briton is already an old tennis player. Obviously, his best years on the pitch are already a thing of the past. In 2016, it didn’t last long as the world’s number one racket. In the same year, Andy won the most single season titles in his career – nine. However, since 2017, Murray has only been able to win two tournaments: in Dubai (2017) and Antwerp (2019). Now, the Brit seems to be experiencing a second youth and is eager to win his 47th singles title. But will Medvedev allow it?

We add that Andy Murray won the Doha tournament twice, but that was in 2008 and 2009. In the current tournament, the Briton started 70th in the ATP rankings. However, reaching the final allowed him to improve his position by 19 lines. Now Murray is 51st and if he wins the final he will be 43rd.

Between them, Daniel and Andy met twice. Both times the victory was celebrated by the Russian tennis player, without giving a single set to his opponent. In 2019, at the Brisbane tournament, Medvedev won with a score of 7:5, 6:2, and in 2022 at the Miami Masters, the Briton could take only 6 games from Daniil (4:6, 2: 6).
