Martha wins first WTA title of her career
Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk commented WTA 250 win in American Austin. In the final, the Ukrainian beat the Russian Varvara Gracheva in two sets, playing in a neutral status.
“Glory to Ukraine! In the position I’m in now, winning this title is especially important. I want to dedicate this title to Ukraine and to all our people who are now fighting and dying… Obviously, this is a very special moment.”
Note that Kostyuk, after defeating Gracheva, did not shake hands with her and refused the traditional joint photo shoot with awards.
20-year-old Kostyuk won her debut title at the WTA level. Prior to this tournament, the Ukrainian lost four times in the semifinals.
In the updated WTA ranking, Kostyuk will rise to 40th place, improving his personal record. Prior to this, Martha’s highest line was 49th position.
