Olympic champion Elena Vesnina believes that the performance of the Russian tennis player Daria Kasatkina in grass-court tournaments will depend on the psychological state after Roland Garros.
On Thursday, Kasatkina lost to world number one, Poland’s Iga Sventek, in the Roland-Garros semi-finals, 2-6, 1-6.
– I am not surprised that Dasha reached the semi-finals of Roland Garros, because her game is ideal for the underground. She won the Roland-Garros junior tournament, many years ago, we can say. And this is her long-awaited release, because Kasatkina has very high potential. Reaching the semi-finals was not a surprise for me. Of course, the quarterfinals with Kudermetova could have gone differently, but Dasha turned out to be more psychologically stable.
I don’t know what timeline Dasha has next. And Wimbledon will pass without us. She knows how to play on grass – quite an experienced player, not the first year on the tour. Therefore, everything will depend on the psychological state.
I think after reaching the semi-finals she should have fond memories of the game and the results. Such successful tournaments give a positive charge to the season. She shouldn’t be upset, although she probably wanted to play better, win, but it didn’t work out. We have to take the most positive and draw the right conclusions from this game, quotes RT Vesnina.
