The Chilean managed to qualify for the next round, after defeating Australian Christopher O’Connell 6-3, 5-7 and 7-5. If he succeeds in his next game, he will enter the main draw of the first Master of the season.
Christian Garin was not the only compatriot to have played in the first Masters of the season, Indian Wells. Alejandro Tabilo (187th in the ATP) took to the court in the last corner of the night on Monday, to face Christopher O’Connell (86th).
And the duel was more than attractive, since in the first round, The Chilean surprised everyone present in the Californian tournament and with two stoppages of service, he kept the plateau: 6-3. However, what seemed like an easy path to victory got complicated in the second set, as O’Connell entered the match and was leading 3-0.
But Tabilo was not intimidated or lost his focus. He returned to the fight, got a break and leveled the score. Then came a match for each and a break for the Chileans: 5-4 and with the service in their favor. However, the ocean recovered, returned the “favor” and everything was level.
Unfortunately, for the national came a rebound from his opponent, he won 7-5 , and we had to decide in the last round. The same that started fairly even, until the eleventh game, when Tabilo broke his opponent’s serve, leaving him 6-5 and with the serve in his possession. Opportunity which we took advantage of immediately, to impose the 7-5, keep the game and follow in the footsteps of his friend Garin.
Remember that Tabilo was eliminated in the first round of the ATP in Santiago and forfeited for the semi-final of the doubles, to heal his physique. “Unfortunately, I have to announce that I am withdrawing from tonight’s doubles. It’s a decision I made with my team. Physically we are not doing very well and we want to take care of our body for the whole season. We have a very long tour coming up now and we made this decision to take care of the body,” he said last week.
