President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) Shamil Tarpishchev regrets that at some point he did not go to football.
On Tuesday, March 7, Tarpishchev turned 75.
– I finished in team competitions: I no longer appear there. I won seven tournaments with me: three Davis Cups and four Fed Cups. I am No. 1 in the world for these indicators, and for other parameters I enter the Guinness Book of Records. Now my work is very interesting. There is enough knowledge, but a team of coaches work with me with these children. Today, seven coaches will go to the training camp in Bodrum, Turkey. We perform technical and tactical tasks. The people who will have the knowledge to work as full-fledged Davis Cup and Fed Cup coaches have already matured for a very long time. Vice President Yevgeny Kafelnikov, former players who recently retired.
Is there a feeling of irreplaceability? There is no such feeling. There are always people you can learn from who will be better than you. That’s what I try to do. I still regret not going to football, my favorite sport. Now, probably, he would have been removed from football. Everything in life happened against my will: where I didn’t want to, I ended up there. I lived an interesting and meaningful life today. When leisure and work coincide, of course, I am happy. Because I don’t get tired: I can work 24 hours a day, travel all over the world. Why? So that we are better and better,” he told the “Championship”.
Tarpischev has been president of the FTR since 1999.
