Carlos Pardo filed an appeal with the authorities, after the board of directors of the entity led by Sergio Elías decided to challenge the electoral commission that had been elected weeks before. This forced the suspension of the elections which were to be held on May 28.
On May 28, the elections of the Chilean Tennis Federation were to take place. However, they were not executed, after the directive led by Sergio Elías suspended them after challenging the electoral commission that she had been elected weeks before, because in her opinion, the proposed regulations for the process contained “untold numbers of errors” that made the development of the process impractical.
This decision angered Javier Montoya, Antonio Dragosevic and Jorge Sanhueza the members of the said committee. But he was one of Cerro Colorado’s presidential candidates, Carlos Pardo, who decided to file a complaint with the National Institute of Sport last Friday, alleging “a series of shortcomings”.
The facts can be summarized as follows: on May 6, an extraordinary assembly of the respective associations was held to elect the members of the commission. On May 17, the group proceeded to present the aforementioned settlement. It was established there that the candidates for the board of directors would be supported by a sponsoring regional association and that at least one extraordinary general meeting would have taken place. in accordance with its terms and statutes, in addition to requesting that the minutes of said meeting bear the respective stamp of the IND.
This section of the document sparked outrage from the current table, which in a letter dated May 24 signaled the postponement of the process. “The mentioned regulation of the Electoral Committee, required that the associations which wanted to sponsor a candidate, had to accredit this sponsorship with an extraordinary Assembly in which this sponsorship was approved. Also, It is obvious that a rule like that, 10 days before the elections, what it does is directly prevent the nomination of candidates, leaving no other way out than the suspension of the assembly who will be convened, again, in the near future”, they explained in the letter sent to the associations.
People close to this commission assure that one of the reasons is to prevent associations from different cities from sponsoring candidates from clubs that are not affiliated to them or from modifying the lists later. By contrast, Pardo’s complaint to the IND establishes “that the suspension of a gathering “It is an agreement that must be adopted by the Assembly itself and it is not an optional, even less exclusive, power of the outgoing Chairman of the Board of Directors” according to the writing to which he had access Jock.
In this sense, the complainant explains that only the Court of Honor is the body that can interpret this decision to suspend a meeting. Precisely, the Federation has decided to send the members of the Electoral Commission to this body. “Notwithstanding the foregoing and given the seriousness of the consequences of the actions of the Electoral Committee, the Board of Directors has made this information available to the Court of Honor, so that this body can adopt the disciplinary measures that may be appropriate. » , warned in the letter of May 24, where he specifies that these are “artificial conflicts” which generate discredit in the organization and undermine confidence in public opinion, sports authorities and sponsors. “We are making a call to isolate this type of behavior,” he says.
Likewise, Pardo, who is also president of the National Association of Coaches of Chile, denounces that the minutes of the meeting of the board of directors in which the decision was taken to suspend the elections were requested, but so far the response has been negative. As, warns that, under current law, councils that were to hold elections can continue for up to nine months after the end of the constitutional state of disaster exception, a term that is fulfilled during that month.
“It is respectfully requested to admit this complaint for treatment, adopt investigation procedures and measures deemed appropriate for the protection of the electoral process and finally apply the maximum sanctions provided for by the statutes against those responsible,” the letter concludes.
While waiting for the authorities’ pronouncement, Fetech is preparing the new conditions to carry out the elections, where Elías and his board of directors seek to remain in office for another four years.
