The 30-year-old Argentinian wanted to add match rhythm after being eliminated in the second round of the Indian Wells Masters 1000, but he surprised Borges and stretched his negative record in 2023 to two wins and eight losses.
The Phoenix Challenger, which is played on a concrete surface and will distribute prizes of $220,000, has another tennis player who quickly bid farewell to Indian Wells as the top favorite: the Italian. Matteo Berrettini (23), who will debut at 5:00 pm (Argentina time) against Belarusian Ilya Ivashka (85).
