Rafael Nadal: ‘I don’t know what will happen next, but I will keep fighting no matter what’

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal who won Roland-Garros with tears in his eyes, thanked his opponent in the final the Norwegian Kasper Ruud for the match, the tournament organizers, his family and his fans.

Nadal beat Ruud in the Roland Garros final 6-3, 6-3, 6-0.

Thanks to the whole world! I want to congratulate Kasper. It is a great pleasure to play the Roland Garros final with you. You are a great competitor. You have a great career – and it will be even better. And especially in these two weeks, you have taken a step forward. I am very happy for you and your family, for your great team. I wish you the best for the future. Thanks!

I want to pay tribute to my team, my family – to everyone who is with me. It’s amazing when things like that happen this year when I win. This tournament, the previous Grand Slam… You were with me all these years and you made all these great moments possible, you got me through all these hurts and recessions. They helped me come back, supported me. To my family, to my staff, thank you very much for helping me play match after match and winning match after match in this tournament. Thanks!

I would like to thank everyone who made this tournament possible. For me, as well as for many people who love history, records, this is the best tournament on Earth. Thanks to those who made it this way! It’s an incredible competition! To all the ball boys, volunteers, tournament director, organizers, everyone who worked, helped this tournament be the best. It’s amazing to me! I was always happy when I came here. I can only say a big thank you now and also thank the French Tennis Federation, because this tournament takes place under its aegis.

For me, these feelings are very difficult to describe in words. It’s something I’ve never encountered. Win, then come back, reach that bar, that level, set records. Winning 14 finals means a lot to me. I just want to say thank you very much to Paris, to the fans!

It’s hard to describe my feelings when I arrived here, it was a great pleasure for me to play here. Thank you very much for this support!

I don’t know what will happen next, but I will keep fighting no matter what. Thanks a lot! Nadal said during the awards ceremony.

Nadal has won 14 Roland Garros titles, his 22nd Grand Slam singles title.
