Elina’s return will take place in April
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina commented on her decision to resume career.
“Now my task is to get in game and tournament form, because this is a little different, here several factors are already added that influence this. While I’m working on this and then, just at tournaments I will try to get in shape: it is very important to focus attention correctly, to get out of difficult matches that are probably waiting for me ahead. Now I don’t rush myself, I give myself 100% in training, I do my best to accept the state that I have now, and the fact that it will take me some time to be in good shape at 100% “.
“First of all, it was very important for me that I restore my condition, understand where I am mentally, what I can do to bring myself to a more normal state. For me, these months without tennis were important to completely relax, as I have been associated with it all my life.”
“Now I don’t have any expectations for myself. It is important for me to set mini-tasks that I can achieve within a month, maximum two. Yes, there are goals that I would like to achieve before the end of my career. They are always present somewhere in the head. But now it is important for me to distribute these small tasks and move forward to my form, find my game, be physically ready and strong. This is important to me at the moment. Every time I go out on the court and play, I will try to get in shape with every training session, with every match. Those are my top priorities right now.
Svitolina will return to the court in April. The Ukrainian received a wild card at the WTA 500 tournament in Charleston. The event will start on April 3rd.
In December, Svitolina resumed training. Now Elina is training under the guidance of the Dutchman Ramon Slater.
Svitolina suspended performances at the end of March last year, preparing for the birth of her daughter. The Ukrainian lost the title of the first racket of the country during her vacation.
Svitolina begins her return to tennis outside the top 1000 of the world rankings and with 10 ranking points. At first, Elina will have a high “frozen rating” (No. 20 WTA), which she will be able to use under WTA rules in 12 tournaments, including two Grand Slams and one WTA 1000.
