Former Spanish World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and canadian Felix Auger-Alassim will miss the Masters Series clay court tournament in Monte Carlo.
Earlier on Tuesday, the withdrawal from the tournament, which will be held from April 9 to 16, was announced by multiple Grand Slam winner, Spaniard Rafael Nadal.
“After two months abroad, I’m happy to be back home, but I’m sad because I finished my last match in Miami with physical discomfort. After a visit to the doctor and an examination, it became clear that I could not go to Monte Carlo. I have post-traumatic arthritis in my left arm and muscle pain in my spine. I need rest to prepare for the next tournaments,” Alcaraz wrote on his Twitter page.
“Unfortunately, I have to forfeit the Monte-Carlo Masters,” Auger-Alyassime said on social media. “It’s an event I look forward to every year, but I’ve been having issues with my left knee for a few weeks and thought the smartest thing to do would be to take a vacation to fully recover.
Alcaraz is second in the ATP rankings, Auger-Alassim is seventh.
