Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina believes that the decision of the Wimbledon organizers to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the Grand Slam tournament should be respected.
Last week, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), which is the organizer of Wimbledon, announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the competition in a neutral status and under certain conditions.
“It’s the decision of the organizers, we have to respect it,” Svitolina said in a video posted on the YouTube Tennis Channel.
Svitolina is a former world number three, winner of 16 WTA singles tournaments. Ukrainian this week held the first match of the tour after the birth of a child.
Wimbledon will take place from July 3 to 16.
