Among the novelties reported by Andrea Gaudenzi, president of the association of professional tennis players, there are changes in the calendar and the enlargement to two weeks of five Masters 1000. He will also seek to unify the different organizations that make up the sport. White.

The Professional Tennis Players Association today announced its groundbreaking plan to renew the circuit and end the differences that exist between players and fields. After two years of work, they presented “One Vision” a project that consists of two stages and whose most significant milestone has the expansion of five Masters 1000.

The main objective of this plan is reduce the differences between ATP Tour tournaments and Grand Slam tournaments through three principles. Foster unity, enhance fan experience and take advantage of growth opportunities.

Andrea Gaudenzi, president of the ATP, was in charge of announcing this project, which will bring great news to the circuit. It was during this launch that he also gave his feelings for the future. “To reach our potential, we must be united, seek new opportunities for growth and focus on what matters most: the fans. OneVision gives us a game plan to achieve this. Its launch represents a vital moment for the circuit and a collective effort in our sport. I’m so excited for what’s to come “, he communicated.

The Masters 1000 is growing

The most significant changes concern the Masters 1000. Gaudenzi reports that like Miami and Indian Wells, five events in this category will expand to have 96-man draws and twelve-day matches.

By 2023, the tournaments in Madrid, Rome and Shanghai will be the ones experiencing these changes while in 2005, Canada and Cincinnati will join . Thus, in 2026, there will only be two Masters 1000 left to play in eight days and with reduced draws: Monte-Carlo and Paris-Bercy.

In the economic field, these events will also be privileged, increasing its prize money more than 35% and allowing them a fully independent audit. Along with this, it was reported that players will receive a portion of the contest winnings on top of the base prize.

These changes will still affect 250 tournaments. For example, in 2023 and following this expansion of Rome and Madrid, the Munich ATP will be played the same week as Barcelona and Belgrade while Estoril ATP will share dates with Houston and Marrakech.

Monetary and structural changes

The ATP also announced that the bonus fund will increase, going from eleven million dollars to 20 , making it possible to reach the members of the Top-30 and not just the top twelve. In addition, the allocation of earnings by performance will have a potential that will add 140 tennis players to their assists.

On the other hand the second phase of OneVision will seek to create a unified governance structure , to end the fragmentation that exists today. Remember that in addition to the ATP, the world of tennis has six other bodies: the WTA, the ITF and the four Grand Slam tournaments.
