Chile will face Peru in Davis Cup World Group I

The team commanded by Nicolás Massú will travel to Peruvian territory in September to compete for a place in the 2023 qualifiers for the highest international tennis competition.

During this day was carried out the drawing of lots which defined the keys to the Davis Cup and Chile will face Peru in World Group I.

After easily beating Slovenia, the team led by Nicolás Massú will travel to Peruvian territory since the previous confrontation between the two countries was played in Chile.

The series will take place on September 16 and 17 this year when Nationals will seek a place in the playoffs leading to the 2023 Finals.

The main figure of Peruvian painting is Juan Pablo Varillas (119th) of high level in the South American challengers circuit, while the second player in singles is Nicholas Alvarez (349th). In doubles, his best figure is Sergio Galdos (156th). While its captain is Tupac Américo Venero.

History between Chile and Peru

The last meeting between the two countries dates back seven years. At that time and already under the orders of the double Olympic medalist, the national team unquestionably beat Peru 5-0 in Davis Cup American Zone II for the previous tournament format.

In this key, Chile ratified the historical supremacy over the Incas, obtaining its sixth victory in the eight disputed series.

In 1968, it all started. The first match was played in Lima and the team led by Jaime Pinto and Patricio Cornejo won 5-0 against the locals.

In 1972, the first key took place in Chilean territory. The nationals, led by Pinto, Patricio Rodríguez and Belus Prajoux, won 4-1.

While in 1979, the Peruvians will have their revenge by winning 4-1. Meanwhile, in 1988, Chile would win 4-1, although six years later the Peruvians would shorten the distance and beat the national team again in their capital.

In 1996, the Chilean team, led by Marcelo Ríos, beat the Incas 5-0, returning to victory and from a four undefeated streak that remains to this day. Eight years later, the team led by Fernando González and Nicolás Massú achieved a historic result of 5-0, without having lost a set in the five duels.
