The US Tennis Association (USTA) has no intention of banning Russians from playing at the US Open, according to The Telegraph.
Previously, Russian athletes were suspended from Wimbledon and other UK tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine. Later, the ATP and WTA stripped the Grand Slam tournament of ranking points. The US Open decided not to follow the example of the British tournament and allow Russians to participate in the competition.
– At the USTA board meeting, as expected, arguments were heard from some delegates in favor of a ban on Russian participation. However, the verdict was against an All England Club-style political stance, according to the publication.
At the same time, the third racket in the Serbian world Novak Djokovic , who had previously refused vaccination against COVID-19, will not be able to participate in the last Grand Slam tournament of the season. Note that the United States will not be removing the requirement for a vaccination certificate.
The US Open will be held in New York from August 29 to September 11.
