Athletistic will broadcast a live online text broadcast: Tennis. WTA. Berlin. First round. Kudermetova – Sobolenko. Direct

Sobolenko started her season on grass at the Libema Open in the Netherlands. The Belarusian easily passed Katerina Baindl and Arianna Hartono and then emerged victorious in three sets of a tense quarter-final with Alison Van Uytvank.

In the semifinals, Sobolenko faced Shelby Rogers. The American with a fight lost the opening set, but the intrigue quickly died down as the world No. 5 won 7-6, 6-0 and advanced to her second final this year.

In the final against Ekaterina Alexandrova, Sobolenko led the first set with the score 4:2, but after that she could not cope with the game of the Russian woman, winning only one match and losing with a score of 5-7, 0-6. However, it was a good week for her as she reached the final on grass after a four-year absence.

Veronika Kudermetova had a great year not only in singles, but also in doubles. She recently reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam singles tournament for the first time at Roland Garros. The Russian also reached the final in three singles tournaments, but in each case she failed to win. However, she won two doubles titles.

Kudermetova also started her season on grass at the Libema Open. After defeating Leolia Zhanzhan and Anna Blinkova in the first two rounds, she defeated Belinda Bencic in the quarter-finals and lost to compatriot Alexandrova in the semi-finals.

In doubles, Kudermetova teamed with Eliza Mertens, and the pair reached the final, where they lost in a tense three-set match to Ellen Perez and Tamara Zidansek.

Previously, these two tennis players have met twice, with Sobolenko leading 2-0 in personal encounters. She last won at the Miami Open in 2021.

Both have started the grass season on a high note and are playing well on the surface. Sobolenko last year reached the semifinals of Wimbledon, and Kudermetova – to the final, but in doubles. However, none of them will be heading to the All England pitch this year as they are banned from competing.

Sobolenko had won his previous two matches without dropping a set. This year, however, their overall results have been mixed. While Kudermetova has been pretty consistent, the Belarusian hasn’t been able to show a high level from week to week.

Sabolenko also has issues with his serve throughout the season, which tends to affect other aspects of his game. Both play equally aggressive tennis, looking to gain advantage through power shots. Their doubles experience has also made them very skilled at net.
