The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has accused the former Romanian world number one Simon Halep in another anti-doping rule violation, according to the ITIA website.
As noted, the new case is related to a violation of the athlete’s biological passport.
Halep has been suspended from competition since October 2022 due to a doping test on August 29, 2022, in which traces of the banned substance roxadustat were found. The Romanian said she intended to fight for the truth and denied the doping allegations.
We understand that today’s statement complicates an already publicized situation. From the very beginning of this process – and indeed every other process at the ITIA – we have been committed to engaging with Halep in a sensitive, productive and timely manner,” said Nicole Sapstead, Senior Director of Anti-Doping at ITIA.
Halep is the winner of Roland Garros and Wimbledon, as well as the Australian Open runner-up.
