Down-the-line.ru will broadcast a live online text program: Tennis. APR. Rome. Semi final. Medvedev – Tsitsipas. Direct
World number 3 Medvedev put in one of the best performances on clay of his career, ending Yannick Hanfmann’s sensational winning streak by dropping just two games in each set. Meanwhile, the Russian reached his first Masters 1000 semi-final on clay since Monte-Carlo 2019, where he ultimately lost in the final.
In the match with Hanfmann, Medvedev sat deep behind the back line, serving well and scoring winners. In the first set, the Russian scored an impressive 16 out of 20 points on the first serve and made 14 winners.
It was the same in the second set and Medvedev claimed his 37th victory of the season, including 18 in the Masters 1000 tournaments. Having failed to win a match in Rome in three previous attempts, the former world number one is now 4-3 in tournament.
Meanwhile, fifth seed Tsitsipas defeated Borna Coric in the quarter-finals. It was his 27th victory of the season, including 13 on clay.
Medvedev confidently leads the confrontation with Tsitsipas with the score 7:4. But the Greek has won three of his last four meetings, including the last game on clay in the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros in 2021.
The last time the two players met was in last year’s ATP Finals group, which Tsitsipas won in a third-set tie-break.
