Medvedev on winning the Rome Masters: ‘I didn’t think I would ever win a clay-court tournament’

Russian Daniel Medvedev commenting on the victory in the final of the Rome Masters, admitted that he did not believe in his success in clay court tournaments during his career.

Medvedev defeated Dane Holger Rune 7:5, 7:5 in the final of the Masters tournament.

“I always want to believe in myself and I always want to win the biggest tournaments in the world. At the same time, I never thought I would win a clay court tournament in my career because I usually hated them. I didn’t feel good playing on clay. Now I feel amazing. It was a tough match, we were both nervous. I’m glad I managed to add at the end of the first set, – ATP website quotes Medvedev.

For Medvedev, this is the first title in a tournament on clay, the fifth in 2023 and the 20th of his career. On Monday, the 27-year-old Russian will climb to second place in the world rankings.
