Schwartzman, knocked out of ATP 250 in Lyon: loses to Nakashima and adds his fifth consecutive loss

Diego Schwartzmandemoted to position 93 in the ATP rankings, deepening his bad present: he lost 7-5 and 6-3 against Brandon Nakashima (52nd) in just two hours, he was eliminated in the first round of Lyon ATP 250 and added his fifth straight loss.

The Argentinian former world number 8 was unable to capitalize on his rival’s irregularity this season to gain confidence in the week ahead of the Roland Garros. The 21-year-old American -a hard court specialist- is recovering after his injury: He’s coming off a three-game losing streak and hasn’t won a game since March.

schwartzmann started in 2023 in the 25th position and, since then, his rank has been in free fall: accumulating five wins and 17 losses in the 22 games he played on the year and a record of 2-11 in the brick dust, his favorite surface. In this way, the small one -French Open semifinalist in 2020- he will drop out of the top 100 if he doesn’t get wins in Paris.
