Soviet tennis player Anna Dmitrieva expressed confidence in admitting Russian athletes to participate in the US Open.
On Tuesday, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) said it would allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete under a neutral flag at the US Open. Earlier, representatives from Russia and Belarus were suspended from Wimbledon and other tournaments in the UK due to the situation in Ukraine. Later, the ATP and WTA stripped the Grand Slam tournament of ranking points.
“I can’t say I thought about whether they would let us in or not. I was sure our guys would play the US Open because it’s a normal Grand Slam tournament. He’s special – and behaved particularly. In fact, from the very beginning they said that the guys would play, but only without flags, – quotes the words of Dmitrieva “Championship”.
The US Open will be held in New York from August 29 to September 11.
