The organizers of the last Grand Slam tournament of the season went on about the ATP and WTA.
They showed weakness and lack of spine. The US Tennis Association has announced that tennis players in Russia and Belarus will be allowed to participate in the upcoming US Open-2022. Thus, the tournament organizers did not want to quarrel with international tennis organizations and went on about the ATP and WTA.
The only thing the USTA decided to do was to remove the representatives of the aggressor countries of the flag and anthem and force them to perform at the contest in a neutral status.
“Along with other Grand Slam tournaments, including the ITF, ATP and WTA, the USTA, which owns and operates the US Open, has previously condemned and continues to condemn Russia’s unreasonable and unjust aggression on Ukraine. The USTA, like other tennis organizations, supported the membership ban on Russian and Belarusian Tennis Federations in the ITF and therefore participated in all international team competitions, as well as the appointment of players from these countries. to compete under a neutral flag when they compete in individual competitions.
We recognize that every organization has to deal with unique circumstances that affect their decisions. Based on our own circumstances, USTA will allow all eligible players to compete in the 2022 US Open, regardless of their nationality.
USTA will work with players and the two Tours to use the US Open as a platform to advance the humanitarian efforts of the Tennis Plays for Peace program. In addition, USTA will provide a broad, comprehensive range of initiatives to enhance Ukraine’s existing humanitarian efforts, including a commitment to significant financial support, the details of which will be announced soon, ”USTA said in a statement.
Remember that the only tournament that showed integrity in the matter of war unleashed by the Putin regime was Wimbledon. The organizers did not allow Russian and Belarusian tennis players to participate in the tournament, so the ATP, WTA and ITF removed the tournament by rating points.
