The Paris prosecutor’s office has closed the criminal case of Russian tennis player Yana Sizikova, accused of sports corruption, said the athlete’s lawyer Frédéric Belo.
– With Sizikova, who was detained and taken into custody during the Roland Garros tournament in 2021, all charges were dropped by decision of the prosecutor on April 11, 2023. After two and a half years of investigation, the prosecution of Paris finally announced the closure of the case, believing that the events imputed by Sizikova could not be established, ”RIA Novosti Sport” quoting Belo.
Sizikova was detained in Paris on suspicion of corruption in early June 2021. Then it was reported that the tennis player was being investigated for “organized fraud” and “active and passive sports corruption”. She was suspected of having participated in a fixed match in the first round of Roland-Garros 2020. Several tens of thousands of euros were bet on the game with her participation by betting operators from different countries.
Sizikova, 28, is ranked 50th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) doubles rankings. The Russian has won two WTA titles as a couple.
