Sobolenko: If Kostyuk hates me, it’s fine, I can’t do anything about it

Marta will meet with the second racket of the world in the first round of Roland Garros

Second racket of the world Arina Sobolenko shared her thoughts about the upcoming match against the Ukrainian Marty Kostyuk in the first round Roland Garros 2023.

“Yes, it’s true, if I could [войну] stop, I would stop. And as for handshakes, I basically understand them. [украинок]. I imagine that if they shake hands with Russians and Belarusians, they will receive a lot of messages from their countries. So I kind of understand why they don’t. At the same time, according to my feelings, sport should not be in politics. I mean, we’re just athletes. If they feel good that there is no handshake, I’m happy with that,” Sobolenko said.

“If she [Костюк] hates me, okay, there’s nothing I can do about it. There will be people who love me, there will be people who hate me. If she hates me, I don’t feel anything like that for her.”

The match between Kostyuk and Sobolenko in the first round of Roland Garros is scheduled for Sunday, May 28. In addition to Marta, five more Ukrainians will compete in the main draw of the French Open – Elina Svitolina, Angelina Kalinina, Lesya Tsurenko, Katerina Beindl and Dayana Yastremska, who overcame the qualification.
