Chesnokov – on the decision to allow the Russians in the US Open: “The Americans have shown that they are smarter than the British”

The organizers of the US Open in tennis have proven themselves better than the leaders of Britain’s Wimbledon, having decided to allow the Russians to participate in the tournament, said the semi-finalist of Roland Garros 1989 Andrey Chesnokov.

On Tuesday, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) said it would allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete under a neutral flag at the US Open. Earlier, representatives from Russia and Belarus were suspended from Wimbledon and other tournaments in the UK due to the situation in Ukraine. Later, the ATP and WTA stripped the Grand Slam tournament of ranking points.

– With this decision, the Americans have shown that they are smarter than the British. Suffice it to recall how Abramovich nurtured all of English football, developed all of England, and what did he get? Kick in the ass. Most likely, the decision to exclude Belarusian and Russian tennis players from Wimbledon was not taken by the organizers, but by the royal family. The British themselves laugh at them, make jokes, because they are crazy. Given the political relations between the United States and Russia, the Americans have proven to be more flexible in sport, Chesnokov cites the “Championship”.

The US Open will be held in New York from August 29 to September 11.
