Olympic champion Elena Vesnina sees nothing wrong with leaving a Russian Daniel Medvedev in the first round of Roland Garros.
Medvedev lost to Brazilian Seibut Tyagu. The match lasted 4 hours and 15 minutes and ended with the score of 7:6 (7:5), 6:7 (6:8), 2:6, 6:3, 6:4 in favor of the 172nd racquet in the world, who qualified for the main draw at Roland Garros.
– This is Roland Garros, where there are no weak opponents. Everyone here can play. Tiago jumped over his head, played his best game of his career. But it is worth noting Medvedev’s clay season: he just played brilliantly all spring, winning his first title on clay. His departure from Roland Garros is not a tragedy, but just a moment of work. Danya was not the main favorite to win in Paris, so nothing terrible happened.
Now Medvedev needs to prepare well for Wimbledon. There are grass-court tournaments to come, and on this surface Daniil has great prospects for success, Vesnina told The Championship.
Earlier in May, the second racket in the world, Medvedev, for the first time in his career, became the winner of the Rome clay-court Masters.
