Like the men’s tournament in Halle, the prestigious women’s tournament in the German capital is now in full swing. Today, tennis players are fighting to play the quarter-finals. Our Daria Kasatkina has already been there, who beat her compatriot Ekaterina Alexandrova on Tuesday. And now we will witness a confrontation in another Russian couple. Lyudmila Samsonova and Veronika Kudermetova will compete for a ticket to the 1/4 finals, where the Swiss Belinda Bencic is already waiting for the winner.

Between them, Samsonova and Kudermetova met twice on the WTA tour. Both times the duel of the Russians took place last season. And, interestingly, the first meeting of Lyudmila and Veronika took place almost a year ago (June 17) at the same tournament in Berlin, and also in the match of the second round. Then Samsonova won in straight sets (6: 4, 6: 3), being a tennis player of the second hundred in the WTA rating.

Kudermetova got her revenge in the United States, at a tournament in Indian Wells. In the same second round, Veronica took the lead with even more confidence – 6:2, 6:3. In the first and in the second case, the fights between the Russians were short-lived – 1:20 and 1:11 minutes.

Recall that the Russians overcame the sieve of the first round of the tournament in different ways. Kudermetova had an extremely difficult opponent in the person of Belarusian Arina Sobolenko. Nevertheless, Veronika won a voluntary victory – 2: 6, 7: 5, 6: 4. As for Samsonova, Lyudmila easily outplayed Slovenian Tamara Zidanshek (7:5, 6:1).
