Djokovic was able to beat Khachanov thanks to incredible stamina and physical preparation, believes Chesnokov

Davis Cup finalist Andrei Chesnokov shared his impressions of the Roland Garros quarter-final, in which Russian Karen Khachanov met the Serbian Novak Djokovic .

Khachanov lost to Djokovic on Tuesday with a score of 6:4, 6:7 (0:7), 2:6, 4:6. The Russian, having reached the quarter-finals, repeated the best result of the Grand Slam tournament on clay.

– I think this match was one of the best of the confrontation between Khachanov and Djokovic. Karen played even better than in her winning match in the Masters final in Paris in 2018. I want to say that this is the Russian’s best match on clay in his entire career.

Djokovic was able to win thanks to his incredible stamina and fitness. It was amazing to see how he moved, how he took Karen in small strokes. Usually such moves occur two or three times per set. But here the Serb gave them in full. To put it simply, you have to be a workhorse to constantly run at such blows, quotes RT Chesnokov.

On Tuesday, tennis agent Lev Kassil said around 15% of Russian tennis players had received British visas to compete at Wimbledon, with the rest “in limbo”.

– Great Britain will do everything to prevent Russians and Belarusians from going to Wimbledon. But they don’t understand two things. First, athletes have nothing to do with politics. Secondly, the level of their prestigious tournament will be significantly reduced if the athletes, many of whom hold leading positions in the ATP and WTA rankings, do not attend. So it can be compared to a kick in the leg,” Chesnokov added.
