The tournament will be held without the Ukrainian tennis player
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina withdrew from the WTA tournament in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, in the Netherlands, which will be held from 12 to 18 June.
The organizers of the tournament provided the Ukrainian with a wildcard, but Svitolina decided to skip the first grass tournament. Instead of a Ukrainian wildcard for the main tournament, Leslie Kerkhov received.
Earlier, the Ukrainian tennis player reached the 1/4 finals of Roland Garros-2023, in which she lost the second seeded event Arina Sobolenko. The match between them lasted one hour and 38 minutes.
After the match, Svitolina refused to shake hands with Sobolenko. Probably, Elina’s decision is connected with Sobolenko’s neutral attitude towards Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine and the participation of Belarus in this. Svitolina also refused to welcome Russian Daria Kasatkina.
Recall that recently Elina became the winner of the WTA 250 tournament in Strasbourg. This is her first trophy since returning to the Tour. Svitolina suspended her career due to pregnancy and the birth of her daughter.
