1995 Davis Cup runner-up Andrey Chesnokov has admitted he expects Russian Alina Korneeva to reach the final of the Roland Garros junior tournament.
On Saturday, Korneeva won the final of the French Open in juniors against the representative of Peru Lusiana Perez-Alarcon with a score of 7:6 (7:4), 6:3.
– Clever girl! I watched all of Alina’s matches. It was obvious that in the final she was better at everything. Perez-Alarcon was hooked, but it seems to me that the most difficult match for Korneeva was the first. I watched and didn’t understand how she could win. The opponent played very well.
After the first round, I said that I saw Alina in the semi-finals, if not in the final of Roland Garros. And it happened, – said Chesnokov “Championship”.
Korneeva is ranked 331st in the WTA rankings. Thanks to the 15-year-old Russian, two titles in ITF tournaments, she also won the junior Australian Open.
