Kudermetova is ranked 24th in the WTA rankings. Bencic is seven rows higher – in 17th position.
In the semi-finals of the competition, Bencic will face Greek tennis player Maria Sakkari, who beat another Russian, Daria Kasatkina, in her quarter-final match.
