Dayana won six games in a row in the second set
Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremskaya beat another Ukrainian Lesya Tsurenko in qualifying for the WTA 250 tournament in Birmingham. It was the first personal meeting of two tennis players.
Dayana took two serves from Lesia in the first set, not losing on her own. In the second set, Tsurenko made a break and took the lead with a score of 2:0. However, Yastremska then won six games in a row and advanced to the next round.
Tsurenko played her first match on grass this season. Yastremskaya had previously played at a tournament in Nottingham, losing in the first round of qualification.
Tsurenko will perform in the main draw of Wimbledon 2023. Yastremska entered the alternative list with minimal chances of a direct entry into the tournament.
