Estonian former world number 2 Anette Kontaveit announced that she would end her professional career after the Wimbledon tournament.
Kontaveit has won six WTA singles titles in his career, his best Grand Slam result is the Australian Open quarter-final. The Estonian in June last year rose to second place in the world rankings, at the moment the 27-year-old tennis player is on the 79th line.
— I am finishing my career as a professional athlete. After several visits to the doctor and consultations with my medical team, I was informed that I had degenerative changes in the intervertebral disc. This will not allow full training and continued competition.
Tennis taught me a lot and I’m very grateful. It was important for me to bring the Estonian flag to the tennis courts and play in front of my fans and fans around the world.
I am ready for new challenges after my last effort as a professional tennis player – Wimbledon. Thank you all for your support,” Kontaveit wrote on the social network.
Wimbledon will take place from July 3 to 16.
