In the match of the first round of the competition, the fourth seed Potapova won a voluntary victory over the Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk with the score of 6: 7 (6: 8), 7: 5, 6: 4. The athletes spent 2 hours and 31 minutes in the field.
Potapova shot twice, committed four double faults and converted three break points.
For reaching the quarter-finals of the Birmingham tournament, Potapova will play with American Kathy McNally.
