The national tennis player had to fight against Austrian Lucas Miedler to win the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Now the Canada native is set to face Spaniard Fernando Verdasco.
Alejandro Tabilo entered the final of the quality of the Mallorca ATP 250 and was one game away from entering the main draw of the competition .
The national athlete (81st in the ATP rankings) beat the Austrian Lucas Miedler (286th) in three sets of 3-6, 6-3 and 6-4 after two hours of play.
The first set was the hardest for the Chilean despite the fact that he started trying to dominate the match from the start. In the third game he had a break option which ended up saving his rival and in the Game then Miedler took his first chance to snatch Tabilo’s serve and with that go ahead 3-1 .
in the sixth Game the Austrian picked up his pace again, getting two break options which Tabilo knew how to keep to continue with minimal disadvantage in the game. But that wasn’t enough, as Miedler only had to hold serve to win the first set 6-3. .
The response from the Canadian-born came swiftly in the second set. Tabilo squeezed his rival and ended up breaking his serve in the second game. The European tried to respond in the same way in the next one, but the national second racket defended in good way the three chances his rival had to break and finished in front 3-0. .
With that, Tabilo had to focus on holding his serve until the end and took the second set clear 6-3 .
Already in the last part, and after an exchange of breaks in the third and fourth GameTabilo complicated Miedler’s serve again in the ninth game, giving him the chance to win the match with his serve.
At first, it looked like the Austrian would eventually get the point back after hitting three break points. But Tabilo fought not to extend the match any longer and ended up winning the set 6-4 and going to the final of the quality .
Now on the road appears the Spaniard Fernando Verdasco 115° who eliminated the German Jan-Lennard Struff (149th) from the competition 6-4, 6-3.
