The Russian booked himself a place in the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 tournament, beating Wu Yibin and Yannick Hanfmann. He then beat Tallon Greekspur 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-finals to face Roberto Bautista Agut.

The Russian broke twice in the first set and beat the Spaniard 6:3. The second set was tight, with both players trading breaks early on. The score was tied at 4-4 with Rublev holding his serve before crushing Bautista Aguta in the final game of the match to win 6-4.

Aleksander Bublik, meanwhile, entered the unseeded Terra Wortmann Open and secured his place in the quarter-finals by beating Borna Coric and Jan-Lennard Struff.

The Kazakh faced No. 4 seed Yannick Sinner in the quarter-finals and won a tight opening set 7-5. He led 2-0 in the second set before the Italian was forced to retire with injury. Thus, Bublik reached the semi-finals, where he met ninth-seeded Alexander Zverev.

The Kazakh took the German’s serve in the fourth game of the first set, and that was enough to win it 6-3 and take the lead. Both players held serve in the second set and made it 5-5. Bublik then made a decisive break in the following match before saving serve to reach his first final of the 2023 season.

Rublev leads 3-0 in personal matches with Bublik. The last meeting between them was in the Round of 16 of the ABN AMRO Open 2020 in Rotterdam, where the Russian prevailed 7-5, 6-3.

Rublev is the clear favorite in the game, given his recent form, as well as his flawless record with Bublik. However, the Kazakh is fully capable of competing with the Russian if he’s at his best.

Rublev was very strong on his first serve in the semi-final against Bautista Agut, throwing 12 aces and winning 33 of 41. He also had 29 winners against a measly nine unforced errors.

The 25-year-old tennis player’s serve seems very strong lately, and it won’t be easy for Bublik to interrupt her. Rublev’s forehand, maneuverability and composure will also come in handy.

Alexander Bublik’s serve is his biggest weapon, throwing 14 aces and winning 32 of the first 34 serves in the semi-final against Alexander Zverev. The Kazakh also committed seven double faults. He will have to watch out for Rublev, who in the previous game scored 57% of the points from the reception.

A very encouraging stat for Bublik is that he scored 35 game-winning points while committing just 11 unforced errors in his semi-final. He will have to play another similar match in Sunday’s final.
