The ATP has halved the LTA fine for preventing Russians and Belarusians from attending Wimbledon in 2022

The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has halved the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) fine for excluding Russian and Belarusian athletes from the Wimbledon tournament in 2022, reports the BBC.

Russian and Belarusian tennis players have been suspended from Wimbledon 2022 due to events in Ukraine. For this, the ATP fined LTA $1 million, now the fine will be 500,000. The second half of the ATP amount will return to LTA after the completion of Wimbledon 2023, which allowed players to tennis from two countries. The ATP also no longer threatens to strip the LTA of its members and has restored the organization to full voting rights.

The LTA suffered a total loss of £16.4m in 2022. At the time, the organisation’s chief executive, Scott Lloyd, described the fines as “unforeseen factors”.

In March this year, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and the LTA announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to competitions in the UK on a neutral status. Wimbledon will be held from July 3 to 16.
